Half a Haibun 5

half a haibun 5 on the verge collaboration haibun with Kerfe Roig

We send shadows through the air.

We look to the sky for the whispers of birds.

Are we on the verge of remembering feathers?

On the Verge. Junk mail art by Kerfe Roig

Tanka inspired by Kerfe Roig’s poetic prose. Kerfe is an artist and poet, and one half of blogging duo method two madness. Kerfe and her best friend Nina started their blog as a way to inspire one another, but along the way they have amassed many more friends and inspired many others, including myself. I love Kerfe’s quirky art and the broad subject matter she covers with her poems, with depth, a unique perspective, and always paired with an image of her making. I have particularly enjoyed Kerfe’s junk mail art, an example of which she contributed to our collaboration here, and her self portrait series are incredible, like the one she created after Man Ray.

It was no surprise that Kerfe subverted my Half a Haibun guidelines with her contribution,  reminding me that rules are meant to be broken. While you are perusing their blog, check out the drawings/water colours/ paintings of birds that both Kerfe and Nina create. Thank you so much Kerfe for letting me in on some of the collaborative magic I see on your blog – lets face it, who doesn’t want in on a friendship like yours and Nina’s?

Half a Haibun is an ongoing (and occasional) feature here at 10000hoursleft. A collaborative project with bloggers I admire- they write the prose that I then use as inspiration for a tanka or haiku. The intention being that together, we’ll create a whole; 2 halves converging to add a richness and complexity to one another, in the form of a haibun.

Others in the series:

The Unhappy Wife (with K E Garland)
Shack (with Robert Okaji)
Naomi (with Leslie Reese)
Quest for Depth (with Marissa Bergen)

  1. Reblogged this on method two madness and commented:
I was delighted to be asked by Mek at 10000hoursleft to participate in her collaborative “Half a Haibun” series. She gamely agreed to me taking liberties with the form as well.

Her response is a wonderful combination of ideas and images that gives me new insight into my own words and art.

This is #5 in the series…be sure to click on the links to #1-4.

Thanks Mek! (and next time Nina has promised to join us)

  2. You’ve got a three-way complement of impressions going on here! I love the companionship the first 3 lines of your tanka has with “Are we on the verge of remembering feathers.” Loving this series, Mek! And thank you for turning me on to yet, another [new-to-me] blog!
