Hide & Seek

Sand dunes with shadow to illustrate 3 line tale, cretive writing story prompt

Looking back over my shoulder, I saw its slow, menacing advance drawing a dark cloak over everything in its path. There was nowhere to hide in the vast desert, confirmed by the booming voice calling an end to this high stakes game of hide-and-go-seek. Raising my arms, I fell to my knees in despair, but also relief that I would no longer have to run.

Inspired by Sonya’s Three Line Tale #14.

  1. Very intriguing tale – so want to know what the menace is, the threat that’s so inescapable it’s easier to give in straight away. Frightening thought. Great story πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks so much for the feedback Lynn. Well, it is open to interpretation, but it wasn’t necessarily straight away that the character gave in. And was it an internal or external threat? The plot thickens… πŸ™‚

      Do you do 3LineTales?

      1. My pleasure! Yes, I see it could have taken a lot of struggle before the final capitulation. The thought of internal vs external foe is interesting too. Yes, I TLT – love a photo prompt πŸ™‚

    1. Yes, I have definitely been there. I have found that the decision to face a fear, no matter how big is sometimes a relief and it is never as scary as you think all that time you’ve avoided the confrontation. Thanks for your comment:)

    1. Thanks Vashti! I’m really enjoying the three line tale challenge. So time efficient too! Allows me to keep writing while juggling a million other things. I believe the next prompt is due today on Sonya’s site, so I should have something up later today or tomorrow.

  2. I get this Mek! I completely understand this on a few levels. Sometimes we can only get beyond the fear if we allow to overtake us. Works with pain too. My first day out visiting blogs in many, many days. Glad to see your site again my friend!
