The supermarket backed onto an ally
Where I would meet Peaches and Sally
We’d forage for a meal
Damaged goods sans protective seal
What would Millet make of our glean?
Would he photograph the scene?
Upload it as gritty commentary
And go viral while remaining sedentary
It may cause uproar at the inequality
We’d have a hashtag titled #grittyreality
But the next big thing would come along
And interest in us would sing its swan song
Poetry inspired by Jean-François Millet’s The Gleaners
I love this, particularly the meal part…We should do more of these! I like the concept of basing a story, poem, prose -whatever it may be from a painting. Thank you for the inspiration! 🙂

Thanks Nina! yes, I’m up for using other paintings as prompts. Let me know when you pick one for a piece and I’ll do the same. This 30 day challenge has been an interesting exercise in finding all sorts of prompts and sources of inspiration. I think my favourite method so far is using nouns as per the DPchallenge “Ray Bradbury Noun List Twist.”

In this day and age it seems as if everyone gets their 15 minutes…sadly no more or less.

I think there is a greater sense of entitlement and desire for fame now – all those reality shows and the worst of the lot- the ones with minor celebrities trying to re-ignite their flame no matter what the cost…
